Me Romanisti

i love football because of Roma, late in 2001 i watched them won the scudetto for the 3rd time.
Francesco Totti and Batistuta that time, made my childhood awesome :)

here's history from Roma, according to official website www.asroma.it

In the summer of 1927 the Associazione Sportiva Roma (A.S. Roma) was founded by merging three Roman football clubs: Fortitudo, Roman and Alba. Several months before, during meetings with the presidents of those Roman football teams, Italo Foschi proposed to create a unified and powerful Roman club to challenge the dominance of Italy's Northern clubs. In July of 1927, Italo Foschi, in Via degli Uffizi del Vicario n. 35, signed the New Club constitution, became its president and the she-wolf was chosen as the symbol of the new club. The colors of the Capitol Gonfalon, yellow and red, became the team colors.  Fascinated by the Greek myth of Olimpia, Lazio Club, born a few years earlier, did not even consider these colors. That decision may have been hard to understand by the masses that better recognized themselves in the colors of Capitol flag. This was probably the main reason why Roma became suddenly very popular, beloved by people of the old districts and of the city suburbs.

After ten years of unimpressive results, at last Roma won their first Scudetto. Trained by the Austro-Hungarian Alfred Shaffer, Roma had excellent results by the end of the season. It was a very strong team, with a solid defense guided by goalkeeper Masetti and with a dangerous counterattack. But that year, the key were the 18 goals scored by the champion Amedeo Amadei. He was born in Frascati and he had begun his career in Roma's youth team before growing up at Atalanta. When he returned to Roma, Schaffer placed him as center forward and Amadei repaid his coach's trust with those 18 goals. This was the first time a Center South team would win the Scudetto.

The summer of 1979 was a crucial one: Dino Viola became President and under his direction Roma was at the top of Italian Football. Ironic, persisting in his opinions and intolerant of some Clubs abuse of power, President Viola lead Roma to the victory of its second Scudetto increasing the long lasting rivalry with Boniperti ’s Juventus. With President Viola the wind changed; in his first year as President, Viola achieved, with Liedholm back in Roma, the Italian Cup defeating Torino. Noteworthy young players were Bruno Conti, Carlo Ancelotti and the great striker Roberto Pruzzo.

In 1980-81 the historical rivalry with Juventus raged on. The “Bianconeri” won that championship whereas Roma doubled the Coppa Italia success; during those years the outstanding Paulo Roberto Falcao took to the field.

The following season was not brilliant. Many players got injured, most notably Ancelotti.
But 1982-83 was finally the year of a long desired victory: Roma got its second Scudetto in Genova on May 8th 1983 thanks to an equalizing goal by Pruzzo. The team, put together by Liedholm, turned out to be a perfect machine: an impenetrable defense with pilars such as Tancredi, Vierchowod, Nela and Maldera, an admirable midfield with Di Bartolomei, Falcao, Ancelotti and Prohaska and an explosive attack with striker Pruzzo and winger Bruno Conti. The city of Rome was ecstatic with this victory and singer-songwriter Antonello Venditti, inspired by this magic atmosphere, wrote the song “Grazie Roma”, which would become the beloved Roma anthem.
In April of 1991 Ciarrapico succeded Dino Viola as president until 1992-93 without achieving great results. After a brief interim presidency with MezzaRoma and Franco Sensi together, the latter became the sole owner of the club. The new president, a great Roma fan, appointed the “trasteverino” Carlo Mazzone as the coach of the team and bought remarkable players such as Balbo and Fonseca. Overall the results of the team were not great but under his guidance Francesco Totti blossomed, becoming the greatest product of all-time from Roma. Later on, Sensi put Roma in the hands of Zdenek Zeman, a real technical innovator. Under him Roma got great players such as Cafu and Candela, Tommasi and Del Vecchio and the Francesco Totti legend kept growing.

By 1999-00 Roma fans fully expected more titles and victories. Sensi decided to call upon the most successful technical coach in Italy in those days: Fabio Capello. He was ready to pass on to Roma his well-tested managerial style. Sensi helped him buying top-notch players among them Montella and Nakata. Things did not gel until the arrival in 2000-01 of Argentinian striker Batistuta, but also Samuel and Emerson. Roma overcame its rivals from start to finish remaining always the leader of the Campionato.  Roma ended the season with a record number of points (75), the most ever registered by any other team during an 18 team championship. The heroes? Batistuta (with 20 goals), Montella and Totti, real the star and leader of the Roman formation.

The recent years were marked by the arrival in September 2009 of Claudio Ranieri. Thanks to the Roman coach, the Club reached second place in 2009-10’s Serie A after an incredible near-comeback against Inter for the top spot. But in his last season, Ranieri’s plan didn’t work as well, and as such in February 2011 he was replaced by Vincenzo Montella. By, May the Giallorossi ended Serie A in sixth position. The summer of 2011 signaled the end of Sensi’s era and the beginning of a new ambitious and modern time, thanks to the arrival of the new american owners, guided by Thomas DiBenedetto. The first stone of the new course was Luis Enrique’s signing: the new coach, coming from an important experience in Barcellona, and with the warm support of the Roma fans, took lead of the team with the strong intent of taking them to the pinnacle of national and international football.
